Best Bang for Your Buck: A Comparison of Online Undergraduate Tuition Rates

There are many online programs and institutions in Georgia and across the country, and it is important to adequately compare the benefits of these programs when choosing the right one for your educational pursuits. One of the most important factors for the majority of students is cost.

When evaluating a school for overall cost, there are several things to take into consideration.

Tuition:
Tuition is the base cost for college courses and is usually calculated per credit hour. eMajor prides itself on offering an affordable and competitive low tuition rate of just $199 per credit hour regardless of where you live. Yes, that's for both in-state and out of state students!

Textbooks and Course Materials:
As part of our commitment to affordability, several eMajor courses have now transitioned to Open Educational Resources (OERs) in place of costly textbook requirements, with more courses continually in the process of following suit. eCore courses are now 100% OER!

When comparing online programs, be sure to ask questions about average textbook costs and any additional materials that may be required for successful completion of a course, such as calculators, lab kits, etc.

Student Fees:
Student fees are just what they sound like, additional costs charged to the student by an institution. Most institutions do charge an overall student fee that includes access to both on-campus and online services. Some schools waive most or all fees for students who are enrolled in exclusively online courses. For eCore and eMajor classes, student fees will vary by the home institution.

Transfer Credit:
The amount of transfer credit accepted by an institution can drastically reduce your overall cost. For example, a school that accepts more of your previous credit (or offers more opportunity for CPL) but has a slightly higher tuition rate may be less expensive overall than one with lower tuition but less transfer leniency. To get a better idea of how much of your existing credit is transferable into eMajor programs, consider requesting a free unofficial transfer evaluation prior to submitting an application for admission.

Tracking down all of this information can sometimes be a daunting task, so we've helped you get a jump start with a tuition and fees comparison of eMajor online programs vs. some popular online institutions. Download it, fact-check it, and do your research. Then give us a call if we can answer any questions to help you make your decision!

Online Learning allows students the flexibility of continuing their educational journey from anywhere in the world. Online classes are an excellent option for students who are studying abroad for the semester, military members and families who are stationed overseas, or even those who want to take classes while traveling for pleasure. While online classes can usually be accessed from anywhere with a reliable internet connection, there are some things to consider before registering for class if you intend to complete the course while located outside of the U.S.  Availability of a Reliable Internet Connection To access most online classes, students must have a reliable internet connection. This may be a challenge in some areas of the world due to various issues such as local network instability, outages, firewalls, or restrictive local internet policies. Before registering for an online class, research the internet accessibility situation in the area in whi...

USG eCampus Helps HR Staffer Find Second Chance at College After Pandemic

Jasmin Khan recalls the unease she felt when working at a hospital as a Human Resources Assistant during COVID-19. Like so many, Khan found unexpected challenges when the pandemic brought physical and emotional hardships to most Americans. Acknowledging the “chaos in her life” caused by the pandemic, she left the job she loved to take a remote role.  While remote work felt safer, she soon realized that her lack of a four-year degree limited her career opportunities. When considering pursuing a promotion, she became concerned that she had the skill set but was lacking the required level of education. No matter how impressive her experience, career progression was difficult without a bachelor’s degree.  And as a busy mother of two young children, she found flexible and affordable options for returning to school very limited. The Search for Flexibility and Quality Then she discovered Georgia Southwestern University’s online programs through USG eCampus. “It felt like a breath of ...

University System of Georgia eCampus Offers Free Online Courses

Students can now take more than a dozen online non-credit college courses at no charge. While most students who take FreeCampus courses already attend USG colleges and universities, the courses are open to anyone. These self-paced courses are also asynchronous with traditional graded assessments. After successfully completing a course online, a student can receive a certificate for earning a grade of 75 percent or higher. There is no penalty for not completing a course. With a focus on courses that are sometimes a barrier to college completion, the USG FreeCampus program allows students to better prepare themselves for credit-bearing courses. For example, a dual-enrolled high school student can take an English composition course to hone his or her writing skills before taking the for-credit version at a College or University. An adult learner who is returning to college after years away can brush up on math, increasing both confidence and future academic performance. USG eCampus also ...
