eMajor Gave Me a Second Chance: One Student’s Journey to Earning Her Bachelor’s

After taking a break from college, Saucony Hunt learned about affordable, online degrees through the University System of Georgia’s eMajor program. Hunt was 12 years into her career when
she became increasingly aware that she needed to complete a bachelor’s degree to continue to advance.

Hunt initially enrolled in college right after high school, but reflects that she was “not prepared or focused enough to complete a degree at that time.” While she has no regrets about joining the workforce, she began looking for educational opportunities when she approached the midpoint of her career.

Now she’s enrolled at East Georgia State College completing her degree in Organizational Leadership fully online through the USG eMajor Program, This program offers a flexible route that allows students in many career paths to tailor their learning and possibly receive credit for demonstration of learning achieved during past work or military experiences.

What drew Saucony to eMajor was the unparalleled flexibility it offered. She no longer had to worry about racing to campus after work or facing full classes. With eMajor, she could access the courses she needed on her schedule, giving her the ability to work full-time while completing assignments in the evenings or on weekends. “It really and truly allowed me to make the goal of earning my bachelor’s degree attainable and realistic,” she said.

For Hunt, the benefits of eMajor went far beyond convenience. The program restored her confidence and sense of possibility. She encourages anyone with doubts about returning to school—especially working adults with busy lives—to consider eMajor. “It has changed my life. It has saved my life,” she shared. “And I can now actually say that I have a date for graduation, which I can’t believe.”

USG eMajor is part of USG eCampus, a collaborative effort among University System of Georgia institutions. The Organizational Leadership degree is geared towards individuals who want to be better prepared for roles in management. Courses focus on organizational leadership, communications, human resources, technology, and finance - as well as other areas for specialization, such as health care management.

USG eCampus is a service unit of the University System of Georgia that assists SACSCOC-accredited USG institutions in administering quality, affordable, high-demand, post-secondary online degrees and credentials that address the workplace needs of Georgia and beyond.
