Chancellor's Learning Scholars 2020 Award Presented to USG eCampus




For the 2019-2020 academic year, eCampus was awarded $5,400 for the Chancellor’s Learning Scholars program. The funds will be used to obtain resources for the Faculty Learning Community. This year’s eCampus Chancellor’s Learning Scholars are Dr. Amy R. Austin, Dr. Sarah Kuck, and Dr. BethRené Roepnack.

The purpose of the Chancellor’s program is to create and support a faculty support communities across the USG. The program will facilitate various educational communities, leading to innovation and change throughout Georgia's classrooms. Their design resembles a community environment offering small group (8-10) engagement opportunities for faculty to explore and discuss areas of interest. Interactions include sustained, meaningful teaching and learning themed conversations regularly scheduled among colleagues.

Scholars included in the program stem from each USG institution tasked with facilitating learning communities on their campuses for faculty members. They are uniquely designed to allow faculty (who teach primarily in an online) to collaborate as a forward-thinking education-based community.

 Each Chancellor’s Learning Scholar will lead a Faculty Learning Community and will focus on one (or more) of the following topics:
  • Brain-Based Learning
  • Growth Mindset
  • High Impact Practices (HIPs)
  • Small Teaching
  • Transparency in Learning and Teaching (TILT)
Dr. Austin's community will focus on ways to incorporate Growth Mindset and TILT in an online environment. Dr. Kuck’s community will explore elements of HIPs. Dr. Roepnack’s community will research Brain-Based Learning and Small Teaching.

 Encouraging student-to-student interaction and increasing student engagement is the desired goal of these communities. In doing so, the program strives to support the USG Complete College Georgia initiative, Momentum Year, which works to guide first-year college students successfully to degree completion. Overall, faculty are dedicated to ensuring that students are successful and have a positive learning experience.
Dr. Austin is the Director of Online Faculty Development, Dr. Kuck is the Executive Director of Academics, and Dr. Roepnack is the Senior Academic Instructional Support Specialist.

March Freebie: No Application Fee for Most USG Colleges and Universities

Free applications are back at more than 20 institutions in the University System of Georgia. During the month of March, potential students can apply for admissions to most USG institutions at no charge. By waiving fees, institutions are able to increase applicant pools and remove a financial barrier for those who might otherwise be reluctant to apply. Rates vary across institutions but savings can be significant. For a student applying at 10 USG institutions with average fees of $40, the savings would be $400.   Students may apply for as many schools as they wish. Most institutions will automatically waive the fee during the application process. A few require specific steps during the application process. Sitting in the Front Row of an Online Class

We all remember that first day of class and trying to decide where to sit. Even when we felt like hiding in the back row (and texting on our cell phones), we knew we were probably better off in the front. It seemed that the ones just a few feet from the lectern were almost part of the instructor’s secret club.
